Early in 2023, I fulfilled my top bucket list trip - cruising for 9 days in Antarctica and crossing the Antarctic Circle. Watching icebergs the size of large buildings pass by as I sipped my coffee in the morning was "other worldly!"
In 2018, I cruised slowly on this houseboat on the Chobe River bordering Namibia and Botswana.
I highly recommend this experience as part of an African safari itinerary. Seeing the animals coming to the water to drink, bathe and play is not to be missed!
My love for polar cruising started with my first Celebrity cruise to Alaska in 2008. Seeing the beauty of Denali National Park and the massive glacier structures left me awe struck.
Another bucket list cruise journey in 2022 to the Galapagos Islands aboard a 16 passenger catamaran. I highly recommend the smaller vessels for this trip because of the ability to learn from the National Park naturalist (similar to our ranger) onboard each sailing. Smaller ships allow you to make more landings and thus more animal encounters. We made two to three stops per day in remote landing sites with no other snorkelers in sight!
Sailing on the Paul Gauguin through the Society Islands in 2017, was gorgeous! We made port in Bora Bora and visited five of the islands in this tropical paradise chain. Our cruise ship held only 300 passengers making it an authentic and intimate sailing.
Seeing the Acropolis at sunset is what makes Athens so special. We sailed on Azamara for the first time in 2018 and thoroughly enjoyed it. The ship size, 694 passengers, allowed us more time in ports and it was perfect for exploring the beauty of the Greek Islands.
The first cruise I took with my husband was in 1984 sailing around Hawaii. We loved seeing so many of the islands in one sailing and lucky for me - he fell in love with cruising!
Sailing out of the New York harbor in 2016 for our New England cruise was very special. Our Princess cruise made port everyday and the beauty of Autumn in full color in Nova Scotia, Maine and Rhode Island makes a New England cruise great!
My cruise in 2017 through the Panama Canal ending in Costa Rica was so enjoyable on our 212 passenger, Windstar ship. Traversing the Panama Canal on a small ship and going through the lock systems next to gigantic freighters was quite an experience. The cruise ended in Costa Rica and seeing the wildlife in Manuel Antonio Park was the icing on the cake.
The sail in to Montenegro in 2013 is a top five sailing expreience for me. The captiain advised the night before to set our alarms to join him on deck. Our Seabourn ship was perfectly sized to carve a path through the channel. What an experience!
Our Mediterranean cruise in 2011 stopped in Sorrento, Florence, Monte Carlo, Nice and Barcelona. We loved having our first "butler cabin" experience. Everything about the sailing was perfect aboard Silversea Spirit (575 passengers.)
This sea bass for two at Jacques on Oceania is a top 5 dining experience for me. I have enjoyed perfectly paired meals with exceptional wines on Seabourn, Silversea and Azamara.
AUGUST 2025. Join us in exploring the beauty of Norway from the water aboard Celebrity Apex. An added bonus will be crossing the Arctic Circle during the sailing. Contact me for details: cheryl@travelwize.net
APRIL 2026. Join us on a special sailing on Azamara circumnavigating Japan. It's sure to be extra special because we will experience the culture in some of the smaller port cities. Contact me for details: cheryl@travelwize.net
Experience all of the top sites in Brazil - including a journey down the Amazon.
Explore ancient history in luxurious accommodations on the Nile River.
A top bucket list trip for me is to cross the Atlantic by sea.
Experience the beauty of Holland on a river cruise with stops near farms bursting with color with tulips in full bloom.
What a way to enjoy wonderful wine while cruising by beautiful towns that make the Douro their home.
The castles on the Rhine are not to be misssed. This river sailing is in my future!
This crossing is very unique. Our cruise will leave Asia crossing the international date line and enter the United States in Alaska. The sailing ends in Vancouver.
Some of my happiest moments have been exploring new destinations on the water. I sailed throughout the Greek Islands on my first ocean cruise at the age of nine so I caught the travel bug early! I love all types of water journeys: ocean cruises, river cruises, and yachting but my favorite mode is expedition cruising. I have been fortunate to experience God's handiwork with expedition sailings in Antarctica, the Galapagos Islands, and the Society Islands, including Tahiti and Bora Bora.
